Days 1 & 2 - Wed. & Thurs., March 18 & 19

We left Wednesday evening from DFW for a long flight to Israel.  After a brief layover in Atlanta we took off at 10:45 pm, arriving eleven hours and 35 minutes later in Tel Aviv - 4:20 pm on Thursday, Israel time.  Our guide, Dani and other representatives from America Israel Travel met us at the airport.  Jerusalem is about a 45 minute bus ride from Tel Aviv.  We went to Mt. Scopus, which overlooks Jerusalem.  By the time we got there, it was dusk, and the city was beautiful - lights were just starting to come on and the city glowed in its vibrant hues of gold as the limestone reflected the sun's light.  Dani explained that this is the view that Jesus would have seen when he entered the city from the east the first time he came to Jerusalem as a boy.  He read Psalm 122 in Hebrew, which was beautiful, then I read it in English.  Here is a portion of that Psalm:

I was happy when they said to me, "Let's go to the Temple of the Lord."  Jerusalem, we are standing at your gates...Jerusalem is built as a city with the buildings close together...Pray for peace in Jerusalem: "May those who love her be safe.  May there be peace within her walls and safety within her strong towers...Let Jerusalem have peace."  I wish good for her.

Tomorrow's a full day...Mt. of Olives, Gethsemane, Kidron Valley, and more!

Peace,
Travis
